A real challenge with a real meaning…by Maria

08.04.13

Last year in April I lost my Dad to cancer and my whole world fell apart as I always thought he would live until very old… I wasn’t the same person anymore, grief and depression took over me for months. I spoke to Helen at Desperately Seeking Adventure saying that I needed something in my life to keep me going, maybe a hobby as I couldn’t find closure. She suggested I should start walking and that I would definitely like it and it would help to clear my mind…I wasn’t so sure but was willing to give anything a go. So I thought as I had never climbed in my whole life […]

Adventure blues?

11.03.13

Do you ever get the adventure blues? I’ve been so busy lately I’ve barely had any time to think about my next adventure never mind actually have one! I feel lately I have lost sight of what I originally set out to do, and have become so embroiled in the mechanics and technicalities of the business, and all the daily necessities, I forget to look at the bigger picture, and why I set up the business in the first place. I absolutely love adventure – anything and everything that’s a little bit different, a little bit challenging and a lot of fun. That’s why I set up Desperately Seeking Adventure, not only so […]

Desperately seeking some snow…

03.12.12

Yesterday I decided I desperately needed to get away from the christmas crowds and went in search of some snow. It was an amazingly crisp and clear day as we headed for Snowdonia, the scenery was so fantastic as we headed through Capel Curig and on past Llyn Gwynant that we had to stop not once, not twice, but three times so I could take a picture! Following much stopping and starting we finally reached the start of the walk – we had decided to walk the Rhud ddu path up to Snowdon as it is less touristy and we hadn’t done that route before, and we were pretty […]

Kendal Mountain Film Festival Inspiration

20.11.12

I was fortunate enough to have an access all areas pass to this weekends Kendal Mountain Film Festival, or to quote the locals, ‘the film festival’! What a truly inspirational weekend, with some fantastic speakers, adventure films and of course the famous Rab party that couldn’t be missed. I was fortunate enough to get to Karen Darke’s lecture which was completely inspiring. A keen runner, climber and general adventurer, at 21 she fell off a cliff whilst climbing and was paralysed from the chest down. She tells her amazing story of coming to terms with life in a wheelchair and overcoming the many barriers that have faced her as she […]

Adventures in a giant rubber ring…

26.10.12

Last week I tried white water tubing for the first time. Adrenaline packed for 3km downstream along the River Dee, after my intial fear (I’m no water baby!) it was exhilirating, fun and slightly chilly on the toes! Peeling our wetsuits on over our swimming costumes was the first adventure, and after listening to the safety briefing off we went in our giant rubber rings across from one ‘eddy’ to the next until we reached the first set of rapids. One by one we were called downstream and whilst we all waited in anticipation for our turn, we could hear the first lady reaching the rapids with a squeal (of […]

Adventures of a different kind…

09.10.12

Last week I learnt how to sit back and relax. Yes, my friends will think I’ve gone completely mad but it’s true, I did, and after a while I even started to enjoy it! Last week I spent 4 days in Tuscany with a good friend in a health spa resort doing some research. Now it’s true, my idea of adventure certainly isn’t sitting in a health spa ‘relaxing’, in fact it’s possibly one of my worst nightmares! One of my friends recently said I’m worse than a cat on a hot tin roof, constantly needing to be doing something.  However here I was in beautiful Tuscany, being shown the weird and […]

A month of Adventures…Trikes, Marmots and Italians.

25.09.12

From riding through the streets of Chester on an amazing technicolour Trike, to testing out some Via ferratas in the Central and Southern Dolomites, and trying to speak my ‘best’ Italian to unbelievably hospitable hotel suppliers, this really has been a month of adventures… At the beginning of the month I met the Rainbow Trike Tours team and was given an exhilarating tour through Chester by founder of the company, Sue, a lady with a great idea and enough passion and commitment to be sure of success. www.rainbowtriketours.co.uk That weekend I took a group of female choir singers on a walk through the beautiful hills of Snowdonia where we […]
