I was fortunate enough to have an access all areas pass to this weekends Kendal Mountain Film Festival, or to quote the locals, ‘the film festival’! What a truly inspirational weekend, with some fantastic speakers, adventure films and of course the famous Rab party that couldn’t be missed.

I was fortunate enough to get to Karen Darke’s lecture which was completely inspiring. A keen runner, climber and general adventurer, at 21 she fell off a cliff whilst climbing and was paralysed from the chest down. She tells her amazing story of coming to terms with life in a wheelchair and overcoming the many barriers that have faced her as she continued the adventurous lifestyle she started as a young girl.

Then there was Kenton Cool, who summited Everest for the tenth time this year, despite shattering both heel bones back in 1996 in a climbing accident. And then the fantastic Ines Papert, a single mother/fantastic ice climber and mountaineer who’s strived to juggle the jobs of both a single mother and professional climber! Followed by more and more inspirational characters…

Along with some fantastic films about wild and wonderful adventures in extreme places the whole weekend was a magnificent experience to be repeated.

I have certainly been inspired!
